What will I learn?

This session builds on the introduction to visualizations and the report canvas covered in our Power BI Introduction.

We take a detailed look at the formatting and settings of some of the common visuals.

A closer look at all the filtering options and the impact on the current or other pages

We look at hierarchies and drill-down.

To attend you should have completed our Power BI Introduction and should also have a sound understanding of the data model and a basic understanding of DAX measures.

    • Learn about the important settings and formatting options for the key visualizations
    • How Visualizations interact with each other
    • Maps
    • Text boxes, lines and shapes; layering, alignment and grouping
    • Conditional formatting
    • Using multiple pages in reports
    • Understand and customize the many options for filtering, including context, slicers and filters
    • Understand hierarchies and use Drill down
    • Changing the default date hierarchy
Meet the trainer

Paul Watson

Paul brings a wealth of understanding and knowledge, specialising in technical training and development in Excel, Power BI and Access.

Paul is enthusiastic about realising what “software can do for people” and has excellent, communication, presentation and organisational skills. His knowledge with IT systems has been gained both academically and through more than 20 years practical experience in the industry. His strengths are demonstrated as both an IT trainer and as a developer – designing solutions for clients within popular commercial applications, and often training users on these applications.

As well as capabilities to advanced level in all the Microsoft Office Applications, Paul is very experienced in tailoring bespoke programming courses, for example in Excel or Power BI, to suit the needs of specific classes. Experience ranges from public scheduled courses to closed corporate training sessions for major financial institutions, digital marketing, e-commerce, social media.

Paul often works on application development projects developing essential systems in marketing, finance, forecasting and financial planning. These practical projects give Paul crucial practical experience for the training room.

Outside of work Paul likes to make best use of all the good things London has to offer – theatre, art galleries, eating out (especially), bars, clubs and the occasional visit to the opera. When he manages to escape out of London, Paul likes country/coastal walks (sounds healthy but there’s usually a pub visit along the way!)
